Biography

I am an Associate Professor and Associate Chair in the Department of Computer Engineering and Computer Science at California State University, Long Beach, and Director of CARS-Lab. I earned my Ph.D. in Computer Engineering from Northwestern University. With over a decade of experience in the broad areas of security, hardware, and intelligence, I have published more than 50 peer-reviewed papers in flagship venues such as DAC, ICCAD, DATE, and ASP-DAC.

I am a senior member of IEEE and a lifetime member of ACM and AAAI. I have served on the technical program committees and as session chair of major design automation conferences, including IPDPS, DAC, ICCAD, DATE, ASP-DAC, ICCD, GLSVLSI, AsianHOST, ISQED, and PAINE. Furthermore, NSF has funded two of my grant proposals totaling half a million dollars towards CISE-MSI and CRII programs. I am also the recipient of Academic Excellence Award from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and Walter P. Murphy and Royal E. Cabell Fellowship awards from Northwestern University.

[Apr 2026] Our paper on early detection of hardware Trojans using NCDEs won the Best Paper Award at DCAS '26. Congratulations to Hasala and Rahul!

[Mar 2026] Two of our papers on LLM fine-tuning for CWE detection and NCDE-based hardware Trojan detection have been accepted for publication in the proceedings of DCAS '26.

[Sep 2025] Our paper on incorporating functional and behavioral features into GNN-based attacks on logic locking has been accepted for publication in the proceedings of ASP-DAC '26.

[Sep 2025] Our paper on UAV-based secure communication has been accepted for publication in the proceedings of AsianHOST '25.

[Aug 2025] I will serve as the Co-Chair of the Hardware and System Security (HSS) track at ISQED '26.
